"A. R. Rahman was born to a Tamil family. His father R. K. Shekhar , a Hindu, was a composer and conductor for Malayalam-language films of Keralite cinema , who was married to Kareema Begum [ 3 ] who was born in a Muslim family [ 4 ] . Rahman lost his father when he was 9 years old, and his family rented out musical equipment as a source of income.
